DEAD MEAT

Dead Meat

A Short Film by Jonathan Rey Caballero.

Starring Ciara Briggs and June Macasaet,
Dead Meat is about a girl and a tin of meat. When night falls, the tin of Ham-a-licious seems to get a mind of its own,
and a night of horror ensues.

Animate the Horror

I was approached by Jonathan to bring his vision of a meat monster to life.

With the creative possibilities of animation, we were able to utilise it
to create a couple of animated scenes and a title sequence, tying the animation into the live-action and bringing some imagination
and distinct visual creativity to the film.

We see Stacy entering a Wild-West standoff with the tin of (not) Spam,
cleanly winning the duel. But the fever dream isn’t over.

The second battle comes when the meat… won’t stay dead. Stacy goes
to desperate lengths to destroy the meat in her blender, and what
happens next leaves her with a cold sweat that a shower can’t fix.

The Process

Working on this film was a massive labour of love.

We started with concept sketches for character designs
and colour palettes, and then worked through the various stages of storyboarding, developing animatics for timing, and moving through
the production pipeline to finally get to the finished renders.

We had a lot of ideas and ran a lot of tests, so naturally some things never saw the light of day (like that bunny hop boxing animation above), but when it all came together, Jonathan’s vision made for a gripping and unique cinematic experience that had some incredible audience reactions during the premiere.
